As I came to young womanhood, I was constantly searching for a better understanding of God, the church in which I had been reared having failed to supply this need. At this time a new acquaintance introduced me to Christian Science, and I knew immediately that it was the religion for which I had been seeking.

I read the first two chapters in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, named "Prayer" and "Atonement and Eucharist," over and over. They brought such an awakening that the world seemed to be illumined and my life filled with a heavenly radiance and peace. My mother and grandmother also began reading the textbook at this time, and now there have been five generations of Christian Scientists in our family.

Once when we were living in a hotel in a strange city, our little daughter, then four years old, became ill. A practitioner living in the same hotel gave us help. The trouble was measles, and when the child saw the spots on her body, she was quite distressed and tried to wash them off. I told her that the truth would remove them, and then we sang the hymn from Mrs. Eddy's poem (Poems, p. 14), which all children love, beginning,
