As a child of eleven or twelve I...
As a child of eleven or twelve I was deeply impressed by my first contact with Christian Science healing. My mother had refused to permit the amputation of part of my sister's finger. As a last resort, the doctor was dismissed for twenty-four hours and a Christian Science practitioner, recommended b an aunt, took the case for that length of time only. The finger was saved. About seven years later a practitioner gave me one treatment for a peculiar fibrous growth which had disfigured my thumb since I was six, and the growth was entirely gone in two days. This was my second chance to become a student of Christian Science, but I was so engrossed in the adventure of going to college that I did not give Science a thought.
My entrance into the adult world was unusually difficult. I am thankful that within a few years my trials forced me to search for religion. I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and this reading was the turning point of my life.
My greatest healing has been one of circumstances, outlook, and many undesirable traits of character. My gratitude for the blessings summarized in these words is inexpressible.
