When I was a child, I was healed...

When I was a child, I was healed in Christian Science of what I was told in later years was St. Vitus's dance. Later on came a testing time for my grandmother and mother, when I was taken ill with scarlet fever. Even though I had experienced the healing of St. Vitus's dance, my grandmother insisted on the family doctor being called. When I protested against having the doctor, she then gave her consent to let me have Christian Science treatment. Science was quite new in the city in which we lived at that time, and it was the first case of scarlet fever reported to the health hoard as being under Christian Science treatment. I was healed in about two weeks' time with no aftereffects. During the years since then I have had many healings. In twenty-four hours I was healed of diphtheria. I have been freed from fear of the dark and also of being left alone in the house.

I am very grateful for a right understanding of God. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy states (p. 140), "What is the god of a mortal, but a mortal magnified?" After my healing of scarlet fever I was placed in the Christian Science Sunday School. There I was taught that God is Love and Life and that He fills all space. That I could understand, and my former mortal concept of God vanished.

Through the years Christian Science has sustained and protected me during many trials. I have had many healings, one of which came instantaneously during a Thanksgiving church service. I was subject to the loss of my voice several times during the winter. On this day when I went to church, I could not speak above a whisper, and to sing was impossible. During the giving of testimonies, my heart was filled with gratitude to God for all His blessings and for His protecting power during the previous year, which had been a trying one. When we stood up to sing the last hymn, I found that I could sing. That was over twenty years ago, and there has never been a return of the condition. I have also been healed of grief.
