STUDYING THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE LESSON-SERMON

When Mary Baker Eddy established the Lesson-Sermons, or Bible Lessons, as they are designated in the Christian Science Quarterly, in place of personal preaching, she recognized that in this way alone could Christian Science be presented in its purity and clarity at our church services. Referring to the importance of these Sermons, our Leader writes in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. III, Sect. 1), "The Readers of The Mother Church and of all its branch churches must devote a suitable portion of their time to preparation for the reading of the Sunday lesson,—a lesson on which the prosperity of Christian Science largely depends."

The Lesson-Sermons deal with twenty-six subjects selected by our Leader, each used for a week's study twice each year. So comprehensive are they in their scope that a Protestant minister on examining the subjects announced that Christian Science is indeed a complete religion.

Each Lesson-Sermon supplies the student of Christian Science with nourishing, balanced, and palatable daily spiritual food. This food is pure, unadulterated, and life-giving in its energy and power.
