Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Marshall, Michigan (First Church).

The dedication services of the newly erected First Church of Christ, Scientist. Marshall, which were held on Sunday, September 25, 1949, marked a period of forty-eight years since articles of incorporation were recorded for the first Christian Science church in Marshall on September 25, 1901.

However, the first public meeting to be held in Marshall on the subject of Christian Science was held in what was then known as the Eagle Opera House, located on West Michigan Avenue, in August, 1886. As a result of this meeting, a woman who had been bedfast many years was led to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through the understanding gained from this book was healed and became a public practitioner of Christian Science.
