TRUTH IS DYNAMIC

Jesus of Nazareth said (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," thus indicating freedom to be inherent in a demonstrable knowledge and understanding of God, Truth. Moreover, it is a historical fact that real freedom has always gone hand in hand with spiritual enlightenment. Those nations therefore in which spiritual truth is most active have a greater measure of national and individual freedom than do others.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 289), "Truth demonstrated is eternal life." Thus the immortal consciousness of existence is inherent in a demonstrable knowledge and understanding of God, Truth. Again, it is a historical fact that since the publication of the first edition of Science and Health in 1875, in which it is clearly explained that God is Truth, there has been a definite increase in what is humanly known as "expectancy of life"—earth's pilgrimage has been lengthened.

Perceiving something of the dynamic nature of his question (John 18:38), "What is truth?" Pontius Pilate turned away from its stern demands, "washed his hands," and handed the Nazarene prophet over to his clamoring accusers to be subjected to pharisaical brutality and crucifixion. Indeed, all through history the refusal of mortal mind to acknowledge Truth, God, infinite Principle, has led to some degree of crucifixion, just as the acceptance of Truth has led to some degree of resurrection.
