At one time when I was just a young student of Christian Science, my husband had decided to buy a new automobile, and inasmuch as I was to do most of the driving, he wished me to try out a new car which he had arranged to have demonstrated that evening. While at dinner I was suddenly taken with severe pain in my entire body, and I was unable to move. I was carried to my room and put to bed. I asked to be left alone, as I wished to meditate and declare the truth for myself.

Being unable to hold a book or to read anything, I began to repeat over and over Mrs. Eddy's poem, "The Mother's Evening Prayer" (Poems, p. 4), which is also one of our hymns. Mrs. Eddy tells us in our textbook, Science and Health (p. 411), "If Spirit or the power of divine Love bear witness to the truth, this is the ultimatum, the scientific way, and the healing is instantaneous." All at once I began to realize so clearly Love's ever-presence and power to heal that all pain completely disappeared, and I was healed.

I arose and dressed myself, and when the salesman came to demonstrate the new car, I drove it for about an hour without the slightest discomfort. I am always grateful for this healing, for it unfolded to my consciousness the fact that the clear realization of God's ever-presence and power precludes any other seeming presence or power, or any pain.
