WHY GROW OLD?
How can you and I enter into a more abundant life here and now? Can we experience a life not dissolved by years, and sustained by God's eternal laws? Through the study of Christian Science we learn that God is infinite and eternal Life, and that man, His image and likeness, reflects and enjoys the indestructible Life which is God. God, who is perfect Life, could not create sin, sickness, and death. Then these evils have no power to harm us if we do not accept and fear them.
Mortals, believing man to be material and finite, spend much time trying to find life and happiness in material living. But they reap only hopelessness from searching in the wrong direction. Awakening to the truth that man is not made up of matter, but is the spiritual idea of God, inheriting infinite, immortal life from the Giver of all good, they can enter into the peace that "passeth all understanding" and partake of the life of which Jesus spoke (John 10:10): "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
The glorious recognition and understanding that man is spiritual, the freeborn citizen of the kingdom of heaven, not subject to birth, growth, maturity, and decay, unfolds to us harmonious, immortal existence as the ever-present divine reality. Mortals think, talk, and dread old age, and expect with it dwindling freedom, faculites, and opportunities. But there is no necessity for us to accept this common superstition. As we reject such pessimistic thoughts and reverse and correct them with the reality of being, we bring into our present experience God's tireless, unbounded strength and life, which cannot be obstructed or ended.
