AWAKE! ARISE!

Every Christian Science worker who regards a problem as an opportunity for proving that man reflects God's dominion over all discord has taken a forward step toward the solution of the problem. In our human experience, whatever problems confront us can and should be solved promptly through the Science of Life.

The writer was at one time faced with a thoroughly vexing problem. Her oldest son, then a high school lad, was so irregular in his comings and goings that he was disrupting the harmony of the entire household. One could not be sure whether he would be home for his meals or would come bringing several boys with him. He had no bad habits and did not get into serious mischief, but he was rebellious and not at all co-operative in performing his assigned home duties. Whatever he chose to do became the law of action for him. His attitude brought worry because of the bad influence it had on the younger members of the family. Scolding and punishment were resorted to, but proved futile. Good qualities were observed and praised; but while this helped somewhat, it by no means healed the situation.

One day, when overwhelmed with a sense of despair, the writer prayed: "Father, I have done everything I can. What lack I yet?" The answer came very clearly. She saw that she had attempted to work from the standpoint of a naughty mortal, who must be made a good mortal. But this is not what Christian Science plainly teaches. Observe Mary Baker Eddy's instruction in "Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 259): "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."
