A LESSON FROM A HUB CAP
How necessary it is for us to learn that because of his relationship to God man can lose nothing. How often we hear it said, "I have lost my book," or "my purse," or something valuable. Or, it may be, "I have lost my sight" or "my hearing." "No faculty of Mind is lost." Here is a definite statement made by Mary Baker Eddy on page 407 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," of the permanence, indestructibility, and availability of the faculties of Mind.
In Luke (18:41, 42) we are told how Jesus answered the call of the blind man: "What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee?" We read: "And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee." Wonderful results attended the Master's understanding that spiritual faculties cannot be lost, for "immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God."
The Christian Scientist turns continuously to infinite Mind to gain a deeper understanding of his real being; and as he identifies his true selfhood as Mind's idea, he is awakened to man's perpetual reflection of infinite good. He recognizes that this reflection includes not only the faculties of Mind, but all of Mind's ideas. Infinity cannot be divided and its component ideas lost. Christian Science challenges the belief that matter is a solid, three-dimensional object. Matter is properly seen as the opposite of Mind. God, being Mind, Spirit, does not give us material things. In fact, Mind knows nothing of materiality; Mind is conscious only of spiritual completeness.
