I am more grateful every day...
I am more grateful every day for Christian Science. For a healing I had several years ago of a fear that had held me in bondage for some time, that old feat of cancer which seems to mesmerize the world, I am especially grateful. I did not respond to treatments very readily, although I had help from a practitioner for something I thought, Perhaps this is something I must work out myself; but I did not seem to meet it. I became so miserable I could not eat, sleep, or rest, and was so frantic with pain that sometimes I would get up and walk the floor and cry out to God. I was tempted several times to go to a physician for a diagnosis, but something seemed to tell me not to do it. My husband did not want me to, either. Never did he recommend anything but Christian Science to me during this trial, for which I am deeply grateful.
One Sunday morning I felt so ill I thought it impossible to go to church and sit through the service. Later I decided to go, thinking that if I became too uncomfortable, I could leave; but instead I became much interested in the service, especially these words read from the desk (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 22): "Wait for your reward, and 'be not weary in well doing.' If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor became a sluggard in the race." Well, I certainly did not want to become a sluggard in the race, and what a race it was! Also, I noted these words from one of the hymns (Hymnal, No. 9):
