THANKSGIVING
From an editorial in the Oregon Journal, Portland, Oregon
All that there is room for on this day ... is deep and humble gratitude to the Power that guides the universe, that to our forefathers was given an enlightenment, the revelation of American democracy, and that under that enlightenment we have been permitted to grow and mature—and remain free.
And to realize that probably that unscathed freedom was given us, not for us selfishly to luxuriate in, but as a light to hold in trust for all mankind.
