Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Nowata, Oklahoma (Society).

Two special services were held in Nowata on Sunday, June 27,1948, by members of the Christian Science Society as they dedicated their edifice on South Pecan Street.

The Christian Scientists are meeting in the church building which they purchased from the St. Mark's Episcopal congregation several months ago.

A history of the local Christian Science church was presented Sunday, bringing out the following points:

In 1940 a small group began holding informal Sunday services at a home. Interest in Christian Science grew, and in December.1945, a business meeting was held to organize a society which was formally recognized as such by The Mother Church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 25, 1946.

A Sunday School was organized in February, 1947. Increased church attendance made it necessary to find a larger meeting place. Negotiations were begun, and in January, 1948, a church building was purchased. The first service was held in the new church on February 15,1948.
