"MY GOD IS LOVE"

Jesus had only one purpose in life, and that was to prove for himself, for you, and for me that God is Love, all good, all power. His motive in healing was to demonstrate this. Mary Baker Eddy says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 51): "He was inspired by God, by Truth and Love, in all that he said and did. The motives of his persecutors were pride, envy, cruelty, and vengeance, inflicted on the physical Jesus, but aimed at the divine Principle, Love, which rebuked their sensuality."

A student of Christian Science was spiritually awakened by this passage, and the light which came healed her and showed her how to do much more constructive work in Christian Science. For some time this student had suffered severe pain that did not seem to yield to the truth she had so confidently used for a number of years. Time and again she searched her thought to see if she might be harboring hurt feelings, resentment, or hatred toward anyone. And while she knew that she should always be striving to be more loving, she could find nothing in her consciousness except good will toward all.

She had accepted Mrs. Eddy's teaching in Science and Health (p. 475), "Man is incapable of sin, sickness, and death." So she reasoned that as God's reflection, the image and likeness of God, she had no need of healing. She knew that the man of God's creating, perfect and always at one with God, who is Life, Truth, and Love, cannot possibly reflect anything unlike God, and that this truth was not only fact, but also the law of her being, and this knowledge brought her much comfort.
