HOW TO INCREASE ONE'S SPIRITUALITY

On page 230 of her book entitled "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" Mary Baker Eddy writes regarding the Manual The Mother Church: "Its rules apply not to one member only, but to one and all equally. Of this I am sure, that each Rule and By-law in this Manual will increase the spirituality of him who obeys it, invigorate his capacity to heal the sick, to comfort such as mourn, and to awaken the sinner."

Every earnest student of Christian Science desires to increase his spirituality, become a better healer, and be more capable of comforting the mourner and awakening the sinner. And this desirable end can be furthered by obedience to each Rule and By-Law of the Manual.

To obey the clear directive of a divinely inspired Leader would seem to be the most natural, indeed the only possible course for every true follower. Yet in actual experience it often seems hard, for it requires humility, vision, and unselfed love.
