Of Good Report

At the close of World War II, before overseas shipping was available or mail service had been set up, The Mother Church had already gone into action in behalf of the Christian Scientists of Germany. The first copies of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy were carried to them by members of the invading Allied Armies, and they were given permission to reprint the Christian Science Quarterly until it could be supplied from Boston.

Early in 1946, through the appointment of a registered distributor approved by occupation authorities, it became possible for The Mother Church to send large quantities of religious literature to Germany on a gift basis. In this way, through contributions to The Mother Church Wartime Fund, about 13,000 copies of the Bible, 25,000 copies of Science and Health, and 9,000 copies of the Church Manual—in German translation —have been supplied without cost to the German churches. Each Reading Room has been given a set of Mrs. Eddy's other writings. All copies of the German edition of the Christian Science Hymnal available in the United States and Britain have been sent, and 20,500 additional pamphlet Hymnals have been made up for temporary use. Shipments of 10,000 copies monthly of The Herald of Christian Science, German Edition, and 32,000 copies of each issue of the Quarterly also go forward on a gift basis. Over 200,000 pieces of noncurrent literature have likewise been supplied.

From the distribution center, located at Frankfurt am Main, literature as well as large gifts of clothing and food have been distributed to the recognized branches of The Mother Church in all zones. Individuals or informal groups may draw their share from the nearest branch church.
