SCIENCE EXPLAINS AWAY THE MIST

Year after year the Bible is reported to be a "best seller." Does this not point to the need men feel for that remarkable volume which should ever be the close companion of the Bible—"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy? This is known as the Christian Science textbook; and wherever one finds a Science and Health in use, he may be sure that a Bible is hard by and is being earnestly studied.

The writer recalls that before his family became interested in Christian Science, when a journey was undertaken a goodly portion of space in every bit of luggage was given over to boxes and bottles containing a dozen or more potions and pellets, in order to be ready for every possible contingency. Armed with these material remedies, was the family always well? It was not. Strangely enough, this family apparently never looked to the drugs for a permanent healing of some malady or discordant condition. They were content if only the pain was assuaged or some alarming symptom quieted; nor were they discouraged over the reappearance of the difficulty. On and on would continue their blind devotion to the false gods of materia medica.

But how changed was the picture after Christian Science came to the household! A member of the family was preparing for a rather lengthy journey. The children were called into the room where the packing was going on and asked to view the luggage. There, in place of the usual traveling apothecary shop, were the Bible and Science and Health. And it may be stated that never did this family experience such health as it found when through the teachings of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook it turned from matter to Spirit, God, for its healing and sustaining.
