DEMONSTRATING MAN'S PRESENT PERFECTION

"Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (II Cor. 6:2). Mary Baker Eddy quotes these words of Paul's in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," with the comment (p. 39): "Now is the time for so-called material pains and material pleasures to pass away, for both are unreal, because impossible in Science. To break this earthly spell, mortals must get the true idea and divine Principle of all that really exists and governs the universe harmoniously."

Among the fundamental truths which the student of Christian Science learns is that God, divine Mind, Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, is the Principle of all that really is, and that the idea, expression, reflection, or creation of this divine Principle must necessarily be spiritual and mental. Other fundamental facts are that an understanding of the one perfect God and His perfect reflection, man, is the basis of all Christianly scientific demonstration, and that the evidence of the so-called material senses must be rejected as spurious, illusory, unreal.

The "earthly spell" of human experience holds much that is unhappy, sick, sinful, unlovely, much that is in dire need of rectification. To rectify means to set right, correct, refine, or purify, and Christian Science shows how this correction and purification can be brought about in human experience through the acceptance and realization of the truth regarding man as spiritual, forever immune to mistakes, accidents, or sin.
