I am so grateful for Christian Science...

I am so grateful for Christian Science and for what it has done for me that I cannot any longer put off expressing my gratitude.

I should like to tell of an experience that I had several years ago. I fell one evening and fractured my shoulder. At the time I did not think anything very serious had occurred, but the next morning I could not rise from my bed. My family, who were not Christian Scientists, thought a physician should be railed to see if any bones were broken, so I consented.

Mrs. Eddy says on page 401 of Science and Health, "Until the advancing age admits the efficacy and supremacy of Mind, it is better for Christian Scientists to leave surgery and the adjustment of broken bones and dislocations to the fingers of a surgeon, while the mental healer confines himself chiefly to mental reconstruction and to the prevention of inflammation." The X ray taken at the hospital showed a very bad. fracture, and the doctor said that it would be necessary to call in a surgeon to set the bone. It seemed wisdom to me, after reading Mrs. Eddy's statement, to be obedient, so the surgeon was called. However, he was unable to set the bone. He said that the break was in such a position that the bone would not hold and that I would have to have an operation and have the bone pinned together.
