For all the joy and blessing that Christian Science has brought into my life in the past eight or nine years, I am most grateful.

I was healed of the smoking habit through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I have had many other healings, but I should like to mention one which took place in October, 1946. I was very ill with stomach and abdominal trouble. The pain was intense, and I came to the conclusion that it must be acute appendicitis. I resolved to have an X-ray picture taken and, if necessary, to have an operation. Then the thought came to me that I had taken my stand for God in Christian Science, and I asked myself where my faith was. I prayed, "Thy will be done, O Father." I immediately fell into a good sleep. When I awakened, our Master's words came to me (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

My whole trouble was fear. There were latent fears which had existed since World War I, and which had only just manifested themselves. I turned to a Christian Science practitioner for help, and I am most grateful for her untiring work in uprooting those false fears and bringing about my healing. Our dear Leader in one of her poems says (Poems, p. 79),
