I wish to express my gratitude...
I wish to express my gratitude to God for many proofs I have had of the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. I became interested in this religion for the sake of my wife, who was in dire need of help and comfort. She commenced to read the literature, and was so greatly encouraged by what she read that we started to attend the Wednesday evening testimony meetings. The loving and harmonious atmosphere at these meetings and the testimonies of healing we heard encouraged us both and made me long to know more. My wife received great comfort and many healings. I had suffered for many years myself from what the medical profession called gastroenteritis. I spent many weeks in bed every year, and if the doctors were not coming to me I was going to them half the time for nearly twenty years. During this time I was afraid to eat a decent meal. When I had been much better for some months and was feeling much happier, there was a sudden relapse. I struggled on for a few days at business, but finished by coming home in a state of collapse and had to be helped to bed.
This was the turning point of my life, for my wife asked me if she should send for the doctor. Before I could say "Yes" she added, "Or will you have Christian Science help?" and I said "Yes" to that instead. Though it was late at night my wife and her sister went out to a telephone call box and rang up a practitioner. Treatment was very lovingly given, with the amazing result that I was completely healed in one hour. After a quiet night's sleep I was ready to get up. On the following day I was back at business feeling fine, and I am very grateful that for nine years there has been no return of this trouble.
I am indeed grateful for the practitioners, and also for the Christian Science Houses, especially for the one where I found great peace and rest while recovering from blood poisoning. During this experience I was sorely tempted by the many expressions of fear voiced, such as, "You will surely lose your leg unless you have a doctor's attention." Weeks passed by, but the practitioner was very patient with me, and I was able to carry on my business, though I had to cut my shoe to get it on. I made considerable progress, and then I was able to go away for a rest. After a happy week at the Christian Science House I returned completely healed. That "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 494), was again proved true.
