Christian Science has been my...
Christian Science has been my only physician, my only inspiration, for over thirty-six years. I never cease to marvel at Mrs. Eddy's skillful use of words, her constant alertness in denying the existence of matter, or error, as well as her steadfast vision of the ever-presence of Truth. During these years I have gained some knowledge of her deep and extensive teaching.
An outstanding healing was experienced from the effects of an explosion. An oil stove, used to heat my husband's place of business, exploded as I bent over it to change the flow of oil. I have always been grateful for the Truth-given presence of mind which reminded me to turn off the oil at once. I beat my crisping hair with my hands, then telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner. Before I could leave, a friend of my husband came in and insisted upon taking me somewhere to have my face dressed. I assured him, "I will see to it that I have proper care." I went home on the streetcar. The pain ceased in an hour. When my husband telephoned, I asked him to bring me a sponge for cleansing purposes, which was our only concession to the belief of accident. Two days later I attended a fraternal meeting. As I was secretary, I sat at a table facing the room, wearing a thin face veil, and there was no comment from the audience. A friend who had met me at the streetcar insisted that I should apply healing lotions. "Why should I?" I asked. "I am all right." She answered thoughtfully, "I don't really see why you should." When the skin on the face peeled, clear skin appeared underneath.
Recently I had a fall. I neglected to take the stairs in an orderly fashion and landed, chiefly on one knee, on the tile floor. Through the clear knowing of the truth of being by the one I asked for help, I was healed within twenty-four hours. The swelling subsided, the pain ceased, the knee became flexible; I could walk. The first evening I reached the dining room by way of the elevator, bracing myself with a cane between my hip and the wall to give me support. The next evening I walked down three flights of stairs without any inconvenience, this in spite of my nearly seventy five years.
