I am increasingly grateful to Christian Science for unnumbered blessings received over a period of about twenty-three years. Recently there came to thought my first healing, the substance of which I should like to share with the readers of our periodicals.

After an unhappy childhood and years of concern over a younger sister, who had been quite ill, I suffered a complete physical breakdown. Like the woman in the Scriptures (Mark 5:26), I had "suffered many things of many physicians," but all the eye specialists and spinal and nerve doctors shook their heads at what they termed "a strange malady." Finally, one of the leading surgeons in this city stated that a misplaced organ was pressing on the spine, upsetting the nerve center, and suggested an operation. I underwent this operation, which he claimed was very rarely performed; but I was not helped, rather did I grow worse.

I was then thrown into a complete mental collapse, and because of suicidal intentions I had myself committed to one of our state institutions for the insane. While I was there a Christian Science practitioner visited me. After her third visit I laid aside an abdominal truss which had been given me following the operation. I had been told that I should have to use it indefinitely, because the walls of the abdomen were very weak. I forgot to put it on one morning and did not miss it until the nurse asked me why it was lying on the chair. I never put it on again. This in itself helped to lift my morale.
