A CHRISTIAN SCIENCE HEALER

Mary Baker Eddy established her great movement on the foundation of spiritual healing; hence the progress of Christian Science will be commensurate with the healing it accomplishes. Healing in Christian Science demands that the individual student of this Science spiritualize his consciousness. Only thus is he enabled to demonstrate progressively for himself, as well as for those who turn to him for help, God-reflected power and dominion over matter, or evil.

In a remarkable letter to a student which appears in "Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait" by Dr. Lyman P. Powell (p. 322), our revered Leader brings the healing work of the Christian Scientist into proper focus. She writes, "A real scientific Healer is the highest position attainable in this sphere of being."

And in the same letter she makes known the divine requirements for this sacred work: "Your aid to reach this goal is spiritualization. To achieve this you must have one God, one affection, one way, one Mind. Society, flattery, popularity are temptations in your pursuit of growth spiritual. Avoid them as much as in you lies. Pray daily, never miss praying, no matter how often: 'Lead me not into temptation,'—scientifically rendered.—Lead me not to lose sight of strict purity, clean pure thoughts; let all my thoughts and aims be high, unselfish, charitable, meek,— spiritually minded. With this altitude of thought your mind is losing materiality and gaining spirituality and this is the state of mind that heals the sick."
