The Scientific Fact

On page 207 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy gives to the world one of the most profound and succinct statements of truth to be found in the human language. She says, "The spiritual reality is the scientific fact in all things." All Science to be truly scientific must be based on immortal, changeless Principle. Science, whether so-called physical science or divine Science, requires exactness. There can be no exact rules or laws based on changing premises.

The works of Christ Jesus, which demonstrated his dominion over all suppositional physical laws and their limiting and evil effects, indicated his scientific understanding of an exact Principle. This Principle he knew to be Spirit, or God. The effects of this understanding were always good, healing and purifying. This is the basis of Mrs. Eddy's world-changing discovery that "the spiritual reality is the scientific fact in all things."

What power, what comfort and healing, come to the human consciousness which accepts and lives this truth that spiritual realities are ever-present scientific facts governed by omnipotent Principle, whose nature is Love! In the light of this truth one can see that there is no such thing as an evil fact, but that all evil is illusion, a false concept or belief, based on a wrong starting point or premise. To find the spiritual reality of any seeming situation, then, one must begin aright with divine Principle as utterly, uncompromisingly good, incapable of creating or permitting evil.
