I Can Give a Testimony

Many humble and loving students of Christian Science teach Sunday School, serve on committees, and even face the congregation as ushers, who yet seem to be held tight to their seats at Wednesday testimony meetings by the vicious suggestions of procrastination, apathy, or fear. The way to overcome these suggestions is to ponder and study the Manual of The Mother Church, Article VIII, Section 24. There our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes: "'Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's' (St. Paul). Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)."

The writer sat for two decades in testimony meetings, progressing somewhat in spiritual understanding, but never able to stand up and give a testimony in his own branch church. Nevertheless he had been greatly blessed and his life had been completely reformed through the truth as revealed to him in Christian Science. .

Week after week he heard the following statement read from the desk: "This meeting is now open for experiences, testimonies, and remarks on Christian Science." Often he offered up silent testimony to God for His many blessings, but he listened to mortal mind's subtle whispering: "That is enough. You are doing your part. Let the more experienced students testify openly." And he did not testify.
