When I first heard of Christian Science...
When I first heard of Christian Science I was addicted to drinking, smoking, and playing cards. A friend of mine who had been healed told me of this beautiful religion. This friend explained the truth about the relationship of God and man in such a way that when I left him I was cured of the drinking habit. After this healing, however, I drifted away from the church, for which I later realized I had not been sufficiently grateful.
One night, while reading the Bible, I came across the following passage: "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few." This aroused me to the realization that there was much work to be done, and that I was doing nothing. I immediately felt the desire to study, to go to church and obey the teachings of Christian Science. All this took place twenty-five years ago.
Since then, from studying and gaining a better understanding of the Bible and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I have had many other demonstrations of the healing power of Christian Science. Words fail to express my gratitude to God, and also to our dear Leader for rendering so clear and simple the teachings of the Bible. I am also grateful for being a member of The Mother Church, and for having had the privilege of class instruction.—Damaso Castro, Brooklyn, New York.
