Many years ago my aunt was...
Many years ago my aunt was healed of blindness, and through this healing my mother and a number of relatives became interested in Christian Science. I had the privilege of attending the Sunday School from infancy. With this splendid basis on which to build, I have been blessed over and over again. During my childhood I was spared what people consider inevitable children's diseases, and my problems were solved entirely through the application of Christian Science. Our children have both had the privilege of attending the Sunday School, and they too have relied unreservedly on God for help in time of need.
When one of our children was a baby he became ill. We called a practitioner and asked her to help him. The next day a member of my family who was not a Scientist came to visit us. Seeing the child in that condition, he became alarmed and asked that we have a doctor diagnose the case. The practitioner thought it wise that we alleviate his fears, but declared constantly that only God and His image and likeness were present and that there was nothing to see but good. The next day the doctor came, and on examination found that the child's ear had started to discharge. He stated that there was nothing for him to do, because the illness would now rapidly clear up. He added that if the ear had not discharged by itself he would have suggested an operation. This experience demonstrated the truth of Mary Baker Eddy's statement on page 463 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."
At another time one of the children was in bed with a fever. When it seemed at its worst, my husband, who was on a business trip, called from a neighboring town to say that he was on his way home. I told him of the situation at home and asked him to help us claim our God-given heritage of freedom. He said he would, and by the time he arrived home the child was up, entirely well and ready to eat a bite of food before retiring for the night. This had all taken place within two hours.
