I have just completed an interesting...
I have just completed an interesting period in my experience, and I feel that it is time to count the blessings that have been mine through Christian Science. During the past several years they have indeed been many. Some six or seven years ago I found myself suddenly faced with the problem of selecting a vocation. The choice seemed a difficult one to make for many reasons. Up to that juncture in my life I had given the matter little or no consideration, and the more I inquired into the various fields and discussed the matter with friends, the more bewildered I became. I had graduated from a junior college the preceding June, and although I had found employment in a position that had all the earmarks of permanency, prayerful work was begun by my family and myself, and the demonstration of finding my vocation as a child of God was made.
Curiously enough, the result was precisely the one my personal desires told me I did not want. Against my wishes I left work and entered law school. It was not until a few weeks later that I realized the import of the work that had been done in Science. My first and lasting impression of the study of law was one of complete satisfaction, even though I had been certain I would never enjoy it. I had finally been forced to set my human desires and calculations aside and let God show me the way. He did, and I soon found out it was the right way.
Shortly after I had finished school and enlisted in the Navy I experienced a persistent stomach ailment, which interfered with my work. The condition was aggravated first by the rigors of military life and secondly by the demanding harshness of life at sea aboard a combat ship. With the help and guidance of a Christian Science Wartime Worker and later a practitioner, I was able to realize a complete recovery. The struggle lasted many months, and yet never did I doubt for a moment what the outcome would be. I was convinced that I was not working primarily for a physical healing as such, for I knew that man is always perfect by virtue of his reflection of the perfect God. These truths I knew to be spiritually undeniable, yet there remained the final step—to demonstrate these truths in harmonious, healthy being.
