God speaks to human consciousness...
God speaks to human consciousness through the Christ, and man can hear this still small voice, no matter where he is. This was proved in my experience. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 559), "The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, 'as when a lion roareth.'"
I had heard the words "Christian Science" only twice, once spoken antagonistically and once favorably, when my husband and I went to live in eastern Washington. While I was there many things began unfolding to my thought. I decided that if God was good, and I believed He was, then I could not accept the teaching that He made such a place as hell, or that He would punish man forever without giving him a chance of bettering his condition. I reasoned that if mankind was given an opportunity to improve, and succeeded, then eventually there would be no hell or everlasting punishment.
I began to see that there was something wrong with the religious teaching I had received, but I had nothing to take its place. While visiting in Seattle, I told my mother that when I joined a church it would be the Christian Science church. After returning to my own home, feeling a great desire to read the Bible I read from my copy of the New Testament to our three-year-old son every night after putting him to bed.
