Our Passport to Freedom
In the light of Christian Science, the word "identity" takes on great significance. To understand one's true identity is indeed of vital importance.
The writer lived for a while in a foreign country where a totalitarian government was rapidly encroaching on individual freedom. On one occasion it seemed as though she were in for an unpleasant experience because of innocent, yet, to the authorities, suspicious actions. However, her passport from a more liberal nation saved her from unpleasantness, and she went on her way, grateful for being able to establish her identity as a citizen of a great and free country. As soon as the officials in charge were aware of her identity and the nature of her activities, they could see that their supicions had been without either cause or foundation. Likewise, when the truth of our spiritual identity is established, we can see that the fears of the human mind are without cause or foundation.
A Christian Science Sunday School teacher was explaining to her class of young boys the meaning of true identity. One of the boys, in response to a question, said, "Identity is who you are."
