About the year 1384, John Wycliffe crowned a laborious and useful life by giving to the English people the Bible in their own tongue. After this task was completed, he said: "I am assured that the truth of the gospel may indeed for a time be cast down in particular places, and may for a time abide in silence; but extinguished, it can never be, for the Truth itself has said: 'Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word shall abide forever.'" Since that date the Bible has grown in popularity until today it is the world's largest selling book. ...

The Bible can be found in almost every home in America. It has withstood the onslaughts of its enemies and, what is worse, the misinterpretations of its friends. The guns of infidelity have been trained upon it, but not one turret of this mighty castle of truth has fallen. ...
