REST AND RECONSTRUCTION

Reaction to intense human endeavors in the past war has resulted in certain cases in a sense of overstrain, stress, and weariness just at a time when before us there are demands for activity in reconstruction work. To those seeking and needing rest or rehabilitation after their war services there comes an encouraging message through the teachings of Christian Science. This Science teaches that God is the one and only Mind, and that man reflects this Mind. This Mind is ever active and can never be overworked. Man, therefore, expresses this ever-active Mind, and from this basis we can refuse to accept the suggestions of mortal mind regarding fatigue or over-work and rejoice in the truth that man is the uninterrupted reflection of the ever-active Mind.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 519): "God rests in action. Imparting has not impoverished, can never impoverish, the divine Mind. No exhaustion follows the action of this Mind, according to the apprehension of divine Science." Increased vigor, activity, and usefulness follow as a natural result of our understanding of man's ability to reflect this divine Mind.

When Jesus so graciously bade his followers (Matt. 11:28,29), "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me," he had as his audience men and women upon whom a heavy yoke was imposed. To these multitudes the yoke must have signified the burdensome taxation imposed on them, submission to foreign rulers and oppressive ordinances, and fatiguing observances of false laws. Even so today, many are feeling they have heavy burdens to bear. Yet Jesus promised rest and ease and lightness to those who were willing to take his yoke, to those ready to give lip their worldly burdens and material theories and to accept the wonderful truths he lived and worked to bestow on us. These truths concerning God and man which Jesus taught include our ability to understand that God is Love, the Father of all. God, Love, does not give us heavy burdens, but bestows infinite blessings upon His children.
