Christian Science has always...
Christian Science has always been a blessing to me, and I am more thankful than I can express in words for the benefits I have received from it.
Among my earliest recollections are those of scientific statements of truth quoted by my mother from Science and Health by our dear Leader. Mrs. Eddy. I derived immeasurable comfort, assurance, and blessing from them.
The unfoldment of the truth about man as the image and likeness of God, who is good and is all-powerful, has made my life harmonious and joyous. Whenever false concepts of man and existence have presented themselves, the truth has been a ready remedy, and its proper application as taught to us in Christian Science has never failed to bring about health and harmony.
I am grateful for many physical healings, but I am even more grateful for divine guidance resulting in light activity. I have proved many times that when one is content to permit God's will to be done, he will be directed in the path that is best for everyone concerned. At one time I became discontented with my position in the business world. My income was declining, there was jealousy and opposition among my associates, and my scope of activity appeared restricted and unfruitful.
Since my own thought was not clear as to the truth of the situation, I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help. He pointed out to me that man, as God's image and likeness, is perfect; that jealousy or lack of good could not come into man's experience. With this premise we set about impersonalizing the errors that to me seemed real. When they were set aside by themselves, it was not a large step to see their nothingness, since we knew that God, good, is All-in-all.
It was through this process of thinking that I ceased to believe these errors could have any influence either on me or on those with whom I worked. I went about my work with a new and an inspired viewpoint, and the results were glorious! My relations with those about me became pleasant and enjoyable. I liked my work, and there began an era of progress that within a few months exceeded my greatest expectations.
For this unfoldment of good and for many other blessings, including class instruction, I am immeasurably grateful. I am sincerely thankful to Mrs. Eddy for bringing God's message to this age, and for the many activities of our Cause, which are doing so much good all over the world. I am grateful to God and to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower.— William A. Ayres, Westfield, Massachusetts.
I am happy to verify my son's statements in the above testimony. I witnessed all the healings to which he has referred and many more.
I wish all mothers could have Christian Science to help with the bringing up of their children. I have seen in our family of four children the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 236), "Children are more tractable than adults, and learn more readily to love the simple verities that will make them happy and good." Especially is this so when these verities are presented to them as some good thing they love and want, instead of just something they must learn. My heart fills with gratitude for the many healings and proofs of God's loving care and protection for His children that I have witnessed and experienced. On one occasion while I was traveling on a train with the children when they were small, the feeling of danger presented itself to me very strongly. Then immediately I seemed to hear a voice saying, "Be not afraid," which dispelled all fear. There was an accident, and although we walked out on the ceiling of the coach, which landed upside down, none of us were injured.
None of these four children have deviated from the teachings of Christian Science. They all are grown now, and are applying the same divine principle of healing to the needs of their families that they have always had applied to their own needs.
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a local branch church, and for my small part in advancing our cause, I am also grateful for class instruction. —(Mrs.) Merribel Ayres, Sacramento, California.
