DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?

Sometimes we hear young students of Christian Science ask older workers how they may do better protective work for themselves, or for their church and their beloved Cause. Doubtless this has aroused many older workers to ask themselves if they, too, are doing the best they know how to do in this respect. One such worker recently said that when something inharmonious arises she immediately asks herself what it is that she needs yet to know or, knowing, has failed to practice.

It has been rightly said that a Christian Scientist's way is not to fight with error, but rather to work with God, good. For one to say that he intends to fight with error would indicate a belief on his part that error is something tangible and real. For him to work with good in denying reality to every phase of false suggestion is to prove that error is an illusion without law, life, power, or intelligence.

Many times, it has been pointed out that to detect a piece of counterfeit money it is necessary to study the real piece, and that the more familiar one becomes with the real, the more quickly the counterfeit is exposed. So it is, one finds, with Christian Science. The closer our study of this truth, the more alert are we to recognize the suggestions of error or mortal mind, even though they sometimes present themselves as supposedly good. Protective work in Christian Science is the constant recognition of God's allness, together with an alert and fearless detection and rejection of the counterfeit nature of error in its various phases.
