Christian Science came to me at...

Christian Science came to me at the time of my greatest need. In the spring of 1930 I was wandering in the wilderness of materiality and pleasure in matter: I was unhappy, dissatisfied, and seeking for something, I knew not what. Then our only child, a son over fifteen years of age, was killed in an accident at a boys' camp. I was completely prostrated; he had been my closest companion and a great joy, for he had a beautiful character.

An attendant at a Christian Science church gave my name to the distribution committee, and I received some literature, I had always read a great deal, but now I found I could not read anything but this literature, I read and read. A neighbor who was a Christian Scientist took me to the church, and I am grateful to say that I have never willingly missed a service since that time. This dear friend and neighbor lent me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I carried it to Bermuda, where my husband took me, and I read it over and over. I then bought the textbook and subscribed for the periodicals.

My healing was slow, but I was sustained by my study and soon was expressing more harmony and joy. The time came when I could no longer recall the date of the tragedy, and I knew I was healed. The words, "Sorrow has its reward. It never leaves us where it found us," on page 66 of the textbook have been proved in my experience.
