Clarksburg, West Virginia (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Clarksburg, was formally dedicated at services held on Sunday morning, April 20, 1947. As a part of the dedication ceremony, a brief historical sketch of the church was read, substantially as follows:

Christian Science was introduced to Clarksburg in 1906. Two years later Christian Science Society, Clarksburg, was organized, but this society was later disbanded, and local Scientists met on Sundays at a private home on Mulberry Avenue until 1917. In the fall of 1918, a society was again organized, and services were held in the Masonic Temple. This society became a church in 1923.

In 1928 the church moved to the Robinson Grand Theater Building and the Reading Room was moved to the Empire Bank Building. Services were held in the Theater Building until property was purchased at 658 West Pike Street and the house located thereon was remodeled. The first service in this building was held on November 7, 1936, and since that time all indebtedness has been completely liquidated.
