TODAY'S CHILDREN
In viewing a recent news film that recorded the important events which transpired from 1927 to 1947, one was reminded that many of the young men and women who fulfilled their appointed tasks so valiantly during the recent war were children in 1927. In the testimonies published in the Christian Science periodicals and heard at the Wednesday evening meeting many beautiful and outstanding demonstrations over fear and danger are given by those reared in Christian Science homes and Sunday Schools. Of the results of their daily, prayerful thinking based upon their knowledge of the allness of God and the nothingness of evil, no human record can be made. Such records are written in the hearts of men.
Is not this the heritage of our children of today? And should they not play a great part in proving that God, good, alone is power and governs harmoniously, no matter how real the world's problems may appear to be? The maintaining of a true and lasting peace calls for enlightened thinking. The children who are taught in Christian Science to understand and hold to the omnipresence and omnipotence of God, good, will I be a great force in the establishment of good and the ejection of evil. Not only adults, but also children are especially enabled and called to prove that Love is the only power and is expressed in universal peace. Mary Baker Eddy writes (Pulpit and Press, p, 9), "Ah, children, you are the bulwarks of freedom, the cement of society, the hope of out race!"
Thus we see that the children of today are called upon to fill important posts in today's and tomorrow's world. They, as Christian Scientists may become statesmen, business men and women, teachers, practitioners, and lecturers. How shall we, the adult Christian Scientists of today, equip them spiritually to be equal to their high calling? How shall we teach them to know how to live their lives harmoniously and courageously, and to experience that more abundant life which Jesus promised that the Christ, the true idea of God, would give them? From earliest childhood they should be taught obedience to law, to God's law; in other words, to the teachings of Christian Science.
