AFFIRMING TRUTH AND DENYING ERROR

Christian Science proves through healing that the sicknesses and sins of mankind are not physical in origin, but are the results of false beliefs as to the nature of God and man which comprise the mortal or carnal mind, which Paul defined as enmity against God. Hence, it is through correcting the thoughts of humanity with the truth of God's goodness and the perfection of man as the son of God that ills disappear from human experience. Since sickness is the result of error, genuine healing is achieved only through the corrective action of Truth in human consciousness.

In mental treatment for oneself or another, is it necessary to deny the error that man is material, sick, or sinful, or is it sufficient simply to affirm the truth of God and His perfect, spiritual creation, in order to bring the awareness of man's health and godliness to human thought? This question, which often puzzles earnest students, is correctly and thoroughly answered in the published writings of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. Not only do her works plainly state the answer to this question, but the method which she employed in her writings and ministry to make Truth known to humanity exemplifies the proper procedure for students to follow.

Both the absolute truth and the method of its presentation to humanity were God-inspired through Mrs. Eddy, hence her instructions imparting the healing truth to mankind reveal God's way. This way includes affirmations of truth, denials of the errors to be overcome, their claims, symptoms, and conditions, and the proper sustaining explanations of God and His goodness which shield us from evil suggestions and unenlightened mortal conclusions.
