When a young girl I became afflicted with rose cold. I tried many material remedies but found no relief. I was told there was no cure for this trouble, and I would have it every summer.

Then a neighbor, an invalid of many years, was healed in Christian Science. When I was told that Christian Science heals as Jesus did, I instantly said that it must be true. My parents were religious people, and I knew the command which Jesus had left, that we should heal the sick and even raise the dead, as he did. I had never been satisfied that we could not do it.

I made up my mind to call upon this neighbor and find out about Christian Science, for I needed help. I found her well and joyous, but she could not answer my questions. She took me to a practitioner, and he told me that I needed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and that I should read at least ten pages every day. My mother gave me the money to buy the book and let me have a few Christian Science treatments, but as I did not show any great improvement she said I should stop. However, I had the book and loved to read it.
