In the year 1886, I became interested...
In the year 1886, I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of my wife, who had been pronounced incurable by the physician. Since that day Christian Science has been our only physician and medicine. Through study and application of the truths taught in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, we have been able to master, without medical aid, all the children's ailments that have come to us in rearing a family of three children. One healing was of a broken collarbone, and our daughter was healed of a broken forearm. A splint was applied to hold the bone in place for a short time, and ten days after the accident our daughter was playing the piano.

I grew a mustache at a very early age to hide my ugly upper lip. After being married several years I shaved off my mustache, but soon grew it again, because the upper lip was still a very ugly sight.
A short time after this I was traveling on the road as a salesman, and for two or three weeks I had been almost living with Hymn No. 218 of the Christian Science Hymnal, and trying to realize man's oneness and perfection with the Father. The last stanza, especially, was with me all the time:
