The Houston Defender

Houston, Texas Sixth Church (Colored).

The new church building of Christian Science Society (Colored). Houston, located at 2202 Elgin Street, was formally dedicated on Sunday, June 10, 1945.

This society is the outgrowth of a series of meetings held as early as 1915, by a small group interested in Christian Science. The first meetings were held in a private home, where neighbors came to hear the weekly Lesson-Sermons read. In 1919, a lot located at 1415 Grove Street was purchased. In 1927, a cottage was erected on this lot, where meetings were held until the present building was completed.
