Our Divine Assignment

Assignments in the Army, at school, in business, test one's ability and point up the lessons one has received in training.

Jesus, too, prepared his followers for their mission. He did this by demonstrating the divine power to heal sin, disease, and death. When sending forth the twelve to heal wherever they should go, Jesus gave this specific assignment (American Standard Version, Matt. 10:8): "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons: freely ye have received, freely give." He earned his title of Way-shower by showing the way to do these good works. In fact, he gave only instructions which he demonstrated as possible to follow.

Mary Baker Eddy considered this instruction of Jesus so important that she placed the larger part of it in the circle around the cross and crown on the front cover of all her writings. She also established the Christian Science Sunday School, where the children are prepared for this holy work.
