The Value of Association

In instituting class teaching as a vital part of the Christian Science movement, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, was unquestionably inspired. Through this teaching the Science of eternal Life and of the spiritual universe is unfolded in orderly sequence as teacher and pupils are instructed from the Bible and from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

The vastness of the subjects presented to the class, during the period of two weeks allotted to this work, signifies that this experience is a commencement rather than a completion of spiritual education. In the classroom thought is roused from mental routine to arresting discovery. Accustomed beliefs are abandoned. Reason and revelation challenge personal opinion. Penetration of reality reveals eternal Truth.

From this transfiguring experience the members of the class go forth to assimilate thoroughly what they have learned and to demonstrate the facts of divine Science. To guard and guide their progress Mrs. Eddy has provided a sequence of events of ever-increasing value to teacher and pupils. These events occur every twelve months in the form of association meetings as provided for in the Manual of The Mother Church in Article XXVI, Section 6.
