Security

Security above all else in the postwar world is the demand of individuals, groups, and nations. Popular thought attributes man's security to individual endowments, human planning, or material achievements. True security, however, lies in freedom from fear and danger, and is essentially a mental state, attained by the destruction in individual thinking of the aggressive suggestions of fear and personal responsibility.

If we are to accept the teaching of the Bible that man is the image and likeness of God, then it necessarily follows that man's security is of God. "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements," writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 475 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Man exists as the expression or manifestation of God. As such he is created by God, supported by God, and maintained by God, divine Mind. Farther on in her exposition of man Mrs. Eddy states that "man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique." Man, then, is the expression of divine Mind, and as such is the child of God. His security, therefore, is ensured by Mind, and is God's responsibility.

In the divine Mind, which knows only good, evil or error has no place, and receives no recognition. The fact that twice two is four rules out and completely destroys the suggestion that twice two is anything else. Likewise, the fact that God is Mind and that this Mind is good rules out and completely annihilates any suggestion that fear, anxiety, or burden has reality, power, or existence in Mind.
