Signs of the Times
Basic Education
"A Swinton Civil Servant" South Yorkshire Times and Penistone, Stocksbridge and Hoyland Express Mexborough, Yorkshire, England
In these days we consider nothing too good where education is concerned; yet how many parents are quite willing that their children should go through life utterly without any religious teaching. What would these parents say if anyone suggested that they were guilty of neglecting their children? They would point out how well clothed and fed the children were. Is it enough that the body should be cared for and the spirit starved?
Happy will be the day when Sunday worship and Sunday schools again take their place in our land.... Parents can do no greater service for their children than to start their lives on the firm foundation given by the Sunday school.
