My first healing, many years...
My first healing, many years ago, was of an inflamed condition of the eyes. I had been doing some close embroidery work for the holiday season, but began to experience much suffering from pain in the eyes, and could not see to continue the work. I spoke about this to a friend, a student of Christian Science. She said she would help me. The pain and soreness disappeared almost immediately, and I was able to finish my work. It was a number of years, however, before I acknowledged this healing in Science, and I made no effort at the time to inform myself of the manner in which the healing had taken place.
Some years later another friend, seeing that I was inconsolable after the passing on of a loved one, placed in my hands a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with the request that I read it without prejudice. This I promised to do, and progressed no farther than the chapter on Prayer when I realized that I had been healed of grief. Christian Science had given me, as Mrs. Eddy says, "a gleam of the infinite idea of the infinite Principle;" had revealed to me "that which comforts, consoles, and supports" (Science and Health, p. 582). From that time on I became an earnest student of Science, which has since met my every need.
I should like to tell of my mother's instantaneous healing of goiter. One night my mother appeared to be strangling. I endeavored to realize the import of Mrs. Eddy's words on page 331 of Science and Health: "God is individual, incorporeal. He is divine Principle, Love, the universal cause, the only creator, and there is no other self-existence. He is all-inclusive, and is reflected by all that is real and eternal and by nothing else. He fills all space, and it is impossible to conceive of such omnipresence and individuality except as infinite Spirit or Mind. Hence all is Spirit and spiritual."
