Looking for Angels

How often a joyous person sees joy everywhere and a pure-minded one purity! A deceitful mortal usually sees deceit, and an honest man honesty. It is a truism in human thinking that if a person is looking for trouble he usually finds it.

In a poem by Sidney Lanier, "Prince Love" asks his ministers, "Sense" and "Mind," to find him hell. "Sense" finds hell in matter and "Mind" finds it in human thought, but "Prince Love" sees nothing which his ministers see, finding only the good and loveliness which are in himself. Seeking from the standpoint of Love, we find nothing but love. Love cannot see hate, nor can good see evil. We recall the words of the prophet Habakkuk (1:13), "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity."

How important it is then that we learn ever to look for good rather than for evil! "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring. the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts," is the way our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has expressed this idea in the Christian. Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 261).
