I have long wanted to send in...
I have long wanted to send in a testimony to appear in our Sentinel. I have very often been helped over some difficulty by reading a testimony of healing of a similar problem. My family and I have been wonderfully blessed through the faithful work of practitioners and by our own study of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
My early recollections were of crossing the plains between the Mississippi River and Golden, Colorado, where my father, contracting for the Union Pacific Railroad, drove his horses to work. When I was fourteen my father came home telling my mother of a new religion. It was Christian Science. My Methodist mother paid no attention to the remark, but I had great respect for the lawyer and his daughter who had told my father about Science and Health, which he, the lawyer, was reading. Not long after this I visited a cousin in a near-by city and met a man who was always so cheerful and showed such splendid Christian qualities that I remarked what a wonderfully fine man he was. My cousin said, "He is a Christian Scientist." Many years after this my cousin and I joined the Christian Science church at the same time, she in New Jersey, and I in Idaho.
Since my husband was a civil engineer for the railroad, his work took us into many rather unpopulated districts, and I always carried my Science and Health with me. Our young son was completely healed of attacks of asthma, and a daughter was healed of a very bad case of eczema. This daughter was also healed of influenza by my reading most of the night from Mrs. Eddy's books. When I came to the lines, "God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence" (Science and Health, p. 471), she was healed immediately, and fell asleep. Through the work of a practitioner, my mother was healed of a stroke of paralysis. A short time ago I was healed of severe pain when I read a passage from the textbook.
