One of Them
They
said that he was one of them—
One who had heard the Master's call
And followed close, until the Word
Colored his speech and life and all.
Had Peter, in his hour of fear.
Sensed half the grandeur this implied,
He would have stayed beside his friend—
Would not have faltered or denied.
Oh, may we walk beside the Christ
Each hour more understandingly,
To learn all that he would impart,
With hearing ears and eyes that see!
Then if our speech and lives declare
That we have followed Truth each day,
May we count this our great reward,
And still be steadfast—watch and pray.
